Fans' comments - Major spoiler to follow

This episode was different, I like it, a lot. Its visually pretty. Pretty sceneries, I like the Amish family, the kids and the actor who play Elijah.
------------------------
Sting like a bee (sorry I couldn't resist)
I liked them too, but did you notice that Elijah did not have a beard like the rest of the men? I thought all the men past a certain age had to have one?
------------------------
Towards the end, the scene when Lili's shuttle was all covered with butterflies were eerie. When Boone realized that the butterflies only attack organic matter, seems to take him quite a while to come up with the idea of having Lili cut power to the shuttle. That was my first reaction, seems to me that should be Lili's reaction as well. I can see why Lili was concerned that she'll be defenseless if she cut power. I guess Boone has to play the hero. Another thing about the shield, seems like once power was off, the shuttle was wide open, what happens when it rains?
------------------------
Personally this was the best ep (IMHO). I really liked it. It was rather like an X-Files ep. I could picture Mulder & Scully there. I thought that the scene with the butterflies all over the shuttle was creepy. Now that you bring it up I wonder what does happen when it rains
------------------------
Did Boone and Lili went to the Amish country to stay over? Or did they commute? I mean if it only take the shuttle 4 mins to travel 1500 miles to D.C., you would think they can commute without staying overnight? Then why was Boone and Lili wearing the exact same clothes the last day they were there with the ones they wore the day they arrived?
------------------------
I wondered about that too, because they were there a couple of days. I did notice that when they were leaving to go there that Lili was putting something that looked like a bag in the back of the shuttle, but it was late & I could have been seeing things It would not be the first time .
------------------------
I think she was putting Boone's fishing stuff in the back of the shuttle. In fact I am quite sure that's what it was. Anyone else noticed something different? I remember thinking why Lili had to put it away for him, why can't he do it himself? I guess, its *her* shuttle.
------------------------
I noticed that Lili and Elijah never shook hands, why?
-------------------------
I'm not sure, but I think that Amish men don't shake hands with women, especially English ones. I might have to go look that up, Robbie might know...
One thing is for sure. I don't think I will look at butterflies in the same light again....

- Did you watched Butterfly?
- yep.
- It was cool
- what do you think? I loved the episode
- finally some action!
- The thing with the shuttle covered was eerie
- Yeah, and I didn't know its just a shield,
- Hey, what happens when it rains and the shield is not up? :-)
- they get wet

- did you watch Butterfly?
- Yes, I did.
- Very interesting, Taelons are not nice, so is Da'an not nice too?
- Do you like it?
- Yes, it's getting better.
- It wasn't clear, did Da'an know?
- I like Da'an, but there's got to be something more than what's on the surface.
- next weeks look kick a**
- Exactly, that's the hook, does he or doesn't he?
- Yes, looks like its getting better!!
- Mr. Wooden seemed better too.
- Hard to tell if Da'an knows.
- Keep wondering if its all a front with Da'an.
- This week's was like an X-Files ep
- how so?
- Butterfly is like an X-Files ep?
- yep
- If it's like the X-F I'll like it
- What type of experiment was the Taelons doing with that thing?
- Yes, it was kind of like X-files.
- Actually there was an episode where loggers were attacked by killer lightening bugs
- I liked that one.
- To determine the limits of Human pain endurance
- They wanted to see what the human body could stand.
- Its pretty scenery too.
- Oh, I must have missed that. I gotta to rewatch.
- That's pretty awful!
- no, the ep I was describing was an X-Files ep
- to test human endurance -- that's an X-Files ep?
- no, the bugs was.
- The way they went about it, was.
- Exactly, the bugs.

- I really like Lili's clothes so much better than Anne's.
- I like Lili's clothes, period!!
- I didn't care for her brown outfit
- i like Lili's clothes too.
- I didn't care for the brown either. Not a good color for her.
- Didn't notice the brown that much until tonight.
- I noticed that she wears brown a lot too. I liked the skirt outfit she wore last week.
- She wears that Jacket a lot
- Last week, she was wearing brown too
- I like her black leather jacket a lot. The short one

- Anyone been to Amish Country?
- Yes, a couple of years ago, Lancaster, PA. Toured an Amish Farm.
- Was it pretty there?
- I've always wanted to go to Amish country, but I havent been there yet. I have seen several Amish people in Indiana and we have a lot of Mennites in AR
- Yes and no. The Amish are surrounded by industrialization.
- The Amish kitchen in the show was all wrong.
- And the kid had a modern rod and reel
- That was okay.
- Up until age 18 for a boy and 16 for a girl, they can decide for themselves, some even get cars.
- But after those ages, they must decide if they are joining the church.
- I think they use some modern stuff. It depends on how devout they are.
- They also use generators to power their houses, Plus they use propane lamps.
- They do use modern rod and reel?
- That's true, some do get modern stuff.
- Cool
- They also don't believe in photographs.
- I used to be real fascinated by them. I did a couple of sociology papers on them
- What did you write about?
- I couldn't do it, not now, not with TV/Computers.
- I don't think I would join the church. I think I'd go modern and say Sayonara
- I think I would get a car. From what I saw those buggies don't look just real safe
- About the Amish? Hmmm it has been a while. I think I compared them to the Mennonites
- Back to the Amish, we were told on the tour that only 25% choose not to join.
- Only 25 %. That shows how loyal they are to their families
- That's true, plus they probably see that out here it's not any better.

- It's not getting as much publicity as a Gene Rodenberry Production should
- No it really isn't getting a lot of publicity. Here it comes on pretty late and I usually fall asleep while it is on

I just saw 'Butterfly' Saturday afternoon, and I had two immediate thoughts: One, where on Earth did the first victim get that can of gasoline? Amish people use no cars or modern machines, so why have gasoline lying around?
----------------------------
I thought it was kerosen myself.
----------------------------
They use Kerosene for lamps and the do use Gasoline for generators...which they can use outside of the home to help with the powering of tools for work.
----------------------------
Secondly, when the woman drank the cleaning solution, it was implied that she was comatose or something, and yet there she was, good as new, at the end!
Was something amiss in continuity control?
Oh, and I'm still waiting for the "Conflict" part of Earth: Final Conflict"....
-----------------------------
Just saw "Butterfly". Interesting EP. Decent portrayal of the Amish....It almost made me think of home :-) I am from Amish country in PA. I remember them talking about Paradise and Lancaster PA. I was there as recently as September when I flew back in for my sis's wedding....I really am beginning to grow fond of this series...I just wish "Boone" wasn't portrayed like a cardboard cutout....If Lisa could just pass along a fraction of the emotional depth she brings to her character and throw some Mr. Kilner's way...why I bet the show would be much better :-) Well, that's my two cents worth!
