"INFECTION"
An alien probe unleashes a devastating virus on Earth, threatening to kill both the human and Taelon races.
Fans' comments - Major spoilers to follow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
***OK, that gets my screen rolling. This was a great episode. Lisa was great as always. I have NO doubt that Lili could have kicked but on those three bigots with out the help of the guy she brought along for the ride.
Zo'or has NO people skills (or Taelon skills either). What was the line he used to "encourage" the Taelon scientist to come up with an antivirus, something like "It is your failure that will result in the death of the Taelon race. Please remember that as you die." Great management technique. Ouch! Boss of the year... NOT!!
***Yeah, but don't you just love Zo'or!!! It was so funny when the virus started infecting Zo'or, he looked like HELL, but he was still as venomous as ever. I also loved the part when Zo'or asked who the donor of the antidote was and Boone said that it was him. That was priceless!!!
***Agreed! Zo'or is definitely someone you love to hate!
*** Zo'or always looks like hell. It's the scowl, I think. Just like Mousolini. I was wondering, was that Boone showing thru Zo'or's face, or did someone actually spot Elvis again?? Sorry, couldn't resist that one.......groan............
***Dr. Bellman shines in this one. She always looks tired, and sounds like me most of the time. Slightly slurred speech and tottering gait. This is great acting on Majel's part. I remember watching her come into the shopping center where we met. The two young men that she had as "handlers" could hardly keep up with her.
***I loved Belman in this episode too. She is so to the point and frank about
things. With a angelic look on her face she calmly tells Boone he'll be dead
in an hour...no sugar coating there. ***And for those who said that Infection shown out of sequence did not
influence the arc, I say WRONG!
***Agreed!!! 100%!!! It would of added so much to "Destruction" if we had
seen "Infection" in order. There were things that happened later that would
of been explained by "Infection". (i.e. why Joshua Doors went up to the
mothership and talked to Quo'on about the virus, and how Kee'sha fits in )
***I agree. It really would have made a difference if we had seen this one
before "Joining"
***I wonder what else this "Infection" of human DNA means to the Taelons? We
saw the obvious result in Zo'or, but he wasn't the only one to receive it.
Da'an and several others did as well. Guess we'll have to wait and see!
***I can't wait until we see an episode where the infectious human DNA causes
the
Taelons to enter their Disco phase. And they don't have far to go considering
the Taelon uniform already rocks like it's 1977. Imagine Da'an's skin
flashing swirly pink and groovy purple and she's singing, "Burn, baby, burn!"
and Zo'or, with a look of utter self-revulsion, can't help but scream, "Disco
inferno!" Cut to Jonathan Doors, muttering through gritted teeth, "Dammit,
how can I, in good conscience, destroy a species that can get down and
funky?!?"
***Either they did not see that last shot in the episode or did not jump to
the same conclusions that I did. Zo'or has awaked his sleeper.
***I somehow didn't get that part.
***When Boone's cells (in the antibodies) were mixed with
the blood, or whatever, of Zo'or, there was a catalytic reaction. Very
similar to what happened with Johnson. Zo'or now understands that Boone is
a double agent, or traitor, or something. There is a scripture in the New
Testament that sprang to mind: "From that moment forward, they sought his
death." When Zo'or "blushed" and showed Boone' face, I knew that he knew.
PIVOTAL!
***I agree that this episode is indeed pivotal, and it does color my
perceptions of the two episodes that follow. Zo'or *had* to take the
opportunity to kill Boone. As bigoted as he is, he simply could not
tolerate knowing that his life had been saved by such a low life form as a
Human. Especially Boone, who he despises. I don't think he knows anything
about Boone or Lili, however. Ro'ha received brain cells from Johnson,
which gives some credence to the idea of a telepathic link between them
while Johnson was alive. All Zo'or received were some antibodies that had
been incubated in Boone's blood. It would really stretch my suspension of
disbelief to say he acquired knowledge along with them. What does everyone
else think?
BTW, I got the impression from Boone's conversation with Da'an at the end of
the episode that all the antibodies given to the Taelons came from Boone (I
think he said "a human", not "humans"). Did anyone else pick up on this?
***I think you're right. I think all the antibodies came from Boone, mainly
because he was the only one to survive the whole ordeal because of his
implant.
***Oh, I saw that face moment. I just thought that it simply kills Zo'or to
have Boone being the one to have saved his life. But come to think of it,
with Zo'or showing Boone's face, it was indeed similar to what happened to
Johnson. Now, it got me wondering, who are the donors for Da'an and the
other Taelons? Any resistance members? How is that going to affect things?
***How much does Zo'or know about Lili? I tremble.
***Why would Zo'or know anything about Lili? Doesn't it just established a
connection between him and Boone? Oh wait, with Boone's knowledge.....
***I *really* wanted the bigot to step out of line so I could watch Lili wipe
the floor with him. I'm a bit concerned about what that says about me . . .
***Did anyone besides me wonder why Lili and Sandoval didn't seem to catch the
virus? Is it because they didn't drink the water there? Any speculation?
***I think it had more to do with what Belman said earlier. Different
people's
systems respond differently to infection. After all, there are people
walking around who have been HIV positive for more than a decade, but have
never contracted AIDS. Boone and Da'an got sick almost immediately, Zo'or
and Ke'sha took longer, and Lili and Sandoval hadn't yet gotten sick yet
when they developed the vaccine.
***Actually, a lot of people didn't appear to be sick there at the center.
Belman included. Remember Boone talking to Belman about it and she said that
people get symptoms at different rates. Eventually everyone would come down
with the infection since they were all exposed.
***That reminds me of something I wasn't sure of. The Asian woman (who I
think
worked for the CDC, correct?) kept looking at a screen with a body count that
ran up into the 400s. Where were these people who were dying? If 400+ people
died of this virus, but the Taelons had enclosed the infected area in a force
field, then where were these people who were dying? If it was the town that
had people dying in it, why didn't the entire building full of people where
the outbreak first began die first?
***I wondered about that myself. Perhaps it was for the same reason that some
people inside the building didn't appear to be infected. Some people are
just more susceptible to infections than others, although, eventually
everyone should have died without the antibodies. ***Right, and what about the end of the show when they rushed off in 4
shuttles
to take the vaccine all over the world. Hummmm... and how were they going to
give it to everybody, everywhere. This didn't quite make sense did it.
***Yep, I agree. Sure would have liked to have seen this back when it
was supposed to air--it sets up so many things! The fact that Doors now has a
biological weapon (scary! Doors is a very single-minded guy, I'm learning),
***Couldn't agree more, it *is* scary! What's the name of this other doctor? I
wonder what she thinks of Doors and whether she'll keep that weapon a secret.
***and that Zo'or has a definite "motive" to kill Boone. Like Charles said, (I
love that quote you used, very apropos!)--Zo'or is out to get not just all
humans but Boone specifically as well.
***Lili had some great scenes in this episode.
***Not enough of Lili, but she did had some great scenes.
***And did you see how much emotion
Sandoval showed at Da'an's ill health? Very good acting. Ooh, this was just so
much fun overall, a good tense episode, enemies stuck in a building with each
other, very nerve-wracking stuff. What did you all think?
***It was great acting. Now, I might have missed this part, but why were those
three bigots sent to that building? (forgot the name of that building already)
***As punishment for blowing it up and attacking the residents. The priest got
their sentences commuted to community service, in a manner of speaking. I
believe it was his idea to show them what their "enemy" was like day-to-day.
***Or, more to the point, to show the racists that their perceived enemy was
not
evil, but as human as they were. Even more human, if you ask me.
***the bigots were sent there because they tried to destroy the bldg. Law
Enforcement and the Courts sent them to live there for 60 days.
***Okay, so they were sent to do community service at the very same place they
attacked?? Doesn't make too much sense to me!
***NO KIDDING!! That was insane! I wouldn't let people who hated me and wanted
to kill me, prepare my food and work in my house!
Then later in the show when the son asked Lili if he could help, my kids and
I just groaned when he took WATER over to the little girl who was coughing.
Some good quotes from this episode included:
"I have never witnessed such an unnatural passing." (Da'an watching Ne'eg
croak)
"We shall all perish because of your failure. Remember that as you jouney to
the next level." (Ugly Zo'or criticizing Kee'sha)
"Now you've seen what something truly superior can do." (Sandoval showing
off with his skrill)
"We can save you Zo'or." (Sandoval slobbering all over his global link to
tell Zo'or the good news)
***It seems more of a punishment for the folks living in the community home!
:)
But I can also see how it's a more positive form of punishment than simply
locking the racists up in a prison if they could reach just one of them, which
they did in the son.
***I love the moments when Sandoval's emotional imperative make him freak out
when the Companions are in danger and he doesn't know what to do. He gets
flustered. It's kinda cute.
***I also loved it when Sandoval blasted that one guy across the room and said
to
the head Aryan (Aryan?) that line about meeting a truly superior being.
***Oh yeah, that was great! The scrill right at that guy's face. I loved how
Sandoval and Lili handled those guys.
***And, of course, Lili could have wiped the floor with that entire room full
of
Aryans. I loved it when she called the head guy a coward right to his face.
***You see that expression on her face?! She was so calm! Oh, that look!
***I wonder how Lisa enjoyed working with James Purcell again. She worked
with him on the show, Counterstrike, where he was the regular and she was
the guest. Now the tables have turned. ***It's a credit to Lisa's acting. If I were her or the guy she was
intimidating, I would have been blinking like a heroin addict. I'm just a big
chicken. :)
***Lili is so cute when she stands up to people that tick her off. She would
love for one of them to give her a reason to knock their block off. (A
little Sandoval trait in her)
***No kidding! And I would love to see her kick their butt!
***But didn't Boone look horrible all puffed up with that crap around his
face?
GUCK!
***I am just glad they didn't have that stuff all over Lili's face!!! No only
did Lisa do a great job, as usual, in this episode. She looked GREAT in
some scenes. Doesn't seem possible that in an episode like this one, she
would come across as gorgeous, but she did. I don't think I am expressing
myself right here, I hope you know what I mean. BUT, what *was* that dress
she was wearing at the beginning of the episode, her very first scene in
this episode!? I didn't like it at all! That length dress just doesn't look
good on her. Well, at least its not brown!
***Did anyone else notice that throughout the show they referred to the
infection as a bacteria, but then in one of Boone's lines he refers to it
as a virus?
Just a little slip up!
***I think that the use of varied terminology probably indicates that the
writers are not clear on just what they intend to do with this new found
"weapon". There are times during the writing process that a story takes on
a life of its own. I would imagine that every episode has not been written
or finalized. If all the episodes were in the can, then no such
fluctuation ( infection, virus, bacteria) of language would occur.
***Possibly. I still think it was just a slip up though. Bacteria and
viruses are so completely different that the terms cannot be used
interchangeably. In fact, bacteria can be infected by viruses! E. coli
gets the flu! :-)
***Doars and the analyst he was working with(who is she?)(I bet she is
pivotal!) are in a position to change Doars to the 'villain with good
intent'. I never trusted his motives and now he is showing colors that
cannot blend with goodness. Of course, this opens the way for more ammo for
Zo'or. If he finds out about the deadly vaccine( along with his Booneness),
he will be far more deadly, which gives rise to those Taelons who feel as
Da'an does to emerge and become more "combative".
On the other hand, those Taelons who have been inoculated with human
antibodies could mutate into a new group with more human-like affinities for
humans. Love anybody???
***No, I didn't notice that. You're very observant. I generally have to
rewatch the ep to notice anything and I've only seen this ep once. :-) I
guess its time to see it again. Yeah, like anyone has to twist my arm. *** I watched INFECTION this weekend guys and that
episode told us SOME MAJOR things about the Taelons' agenda for our
world and for humanity!
***Agreed. Seeing it out of order is a bummer.
***There IS a third party out there somewhere!!!
The conversations between Kee'sha and Zo'or just prove it to me!
***Good grief, we think alike. I new that rotten probe was not from the
Taelons,
at least not THESE Taelons.
***maybe that one Taelon *the dead one... the scientist... who was that...)
was part of a much larger expedition then we thought... maybe some of
them are amoug us... still living after all these yeasrs....
***Lili was GREAT in this one!
***Yes, indeed.
***I loved it when she pratically begged that
leader of the white sumpremists' group to give her an excuse to kick to
his butt! Oh I would have LOVED to watch her too!
***Yes, more BK scenes for Lisa! Hey, how about a Lisa Howard and Jackie Chan
movie? (Lisa plays the lead, of course.)
***Now *this* I would love to see. ***And then there was
Sandoval and that one jerk! He wind up getting that one fellow good!
***Was Sandy saying that Taelon technology was superior or that he was?
Remember
those white sheet guys don't take to Hispanics much either.
***(Goddenport, did you enjoy watching your Sandy in this one?)
I wonder if the makeup in this episode chased KK off from the show?!!
That make up they had him in was awful!!!
***Could be.
***Does anyone else just LOVE it that Boone is forever now a part of the
Taelons but especially Zo'or himself? I LOVE IT!!!
***That is why Zo'or killed him. Read my earlier post to see why I think so.
***Sandoval actually looked kind of pitiful to me when Da'an was so sick.
He actually looked like he was about to cry! Von Flores is truly a GIFTED
actor with all the emotional range he is able to bring to Sandoval.
***There you go, Goddenport. Another vote for Sandoval for President.
***Wow, great episode!
***Yeah, I like this episode!
Also, it did seem as though people outside the force field were dying. If
so, why were they considering destroying everything inside the force field?
If they were the only ones infected then it wouldn't have mattered if the
CDC waited it out to see if anyone could come up with a vaccine. If there
were people infected outside the force field, then it wouldn't have stopped
the spread anyhow, and they would have destroyed the best chance they had
at finding a vaccine.
It has been a few weeks since I saw the episode, but didn't they show a map
of the infected area? I think they showed it spreading world wide.
